Tomás Gerónimo is Maya Ixil and was born several years before the signing of the Peace Accords in Guatemala. He was raised by his maternal Grandmother who was also one of his strongest mentors. His Grandmother as a survivor of the internal armed conflict, human rights defender, and current Leader of the Ixil Ancestral Council, provided him with some of his earliest teachings. At the age of 13 he began to defend his people, their lands, territories, human rights, and rights of Mother Earth. In the United States he has been a community organizer and also provides Indigenous language interpretation.
Tomas Geronimo, fought for licenses and systems change in Virginia, was an organizer, interpreter and community leader in Virginia for 5 years, currently an interpreter, community leader in Ohio
